Our Communities

We are part of communities across Aotearoa New Zealand

Manawa Energy has operations in almost all regions across Aotearoa New Zealand, and we are continuing to grow as we explore opportunities for further renewable energy generation to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Community Support

We focus our community support on activities that create better outcomes for the people and environments near our generation sites, offices, and development sites. We love supporting initiatives that contribute to the health and well-being of land and waterways on which our operations rely, and projects that make the cities, towns, villages, and regions where we live and work, wonderful places to be.

Tauranga STEM Festival (STEMFest)

Tauranga STEM Festival (STEMFest) is a multi-award winning community event, showcasing 50+ exhibitors from across Aotearoa New Zealand. It brings together organisations that are creating and developing amazing things around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics together into one massive event, attended by thousands every year!

Manawa Energy has been the headline sponsor of STEMFest since 2019.

Hororata Glow Festival

Manawa Energy is proud to be an Aeronaut Partner for the Hororata Glow Festival in Canterbury.

The festival is a spectacular event staged by the Hororata Community Trust and Ballooning Canterbury.

All profits from the event are invested back into the community that surrounds our Coleridge Power Scheme. The festival also provides an opportunity for many community groups to fundraise for their own causes.

Kiwi and kōkako conservation

Kiwi and kōkako conservation

Manawa Energy has partnered with Ngamanwa Incorporation and the Department of Conversation, to provide funding for surveys and predator control in the areas around the Kaimai Hydro-electric Power Scheme.

A total of 970 hectares was protected over the 2021-22 season, with 19 kōkako pairs and six territorial singles recorded within the survey area. The work ensures both kiwi and kōkako will be seen and heard for generations to come.

West Coast Wilderness Trail

West Coast Wilderness Trail

The West Coast Wilderness Trail is 4 days of incredible scenery, smooth mountain bike trails, unique flora and fauna, and fascinating history on the South Island’s West Coast. The trail spans from Greymouth to Ross, and crosses through Manawa Energy’s Dillmans Dam near Kumara, and Lake Kaniere, the reservoir for our Kaniere Forks/McKay’s Creek power scheme.

Where the trail crosses through Manawa Energy’s generation schemes, riders can experience the West Coast’s rich history of innovative water use across many industries, including hydro-electric power generation, with some infrastructure dating back over 100 years.
